Are You Drifting? The Importance of Being Intentional with God

Are You Drifting? The Importance of Being Intentional with God
It’s been a heavy week. Today in particular.
For a variety of reasons.
And yesterday.
I just felt so unsettled.
Sometimes when I’m in the midst of my feelings, I forget to do the most important thing.
The thing that calms me.
The thing that settles me.
I usually do my Bible reading in the morning, first thing. But yesterday was a busy morning and I wasn’t able to. So I opened it last night.
There’s something about drawing close to our Father that makes me feel safe. Comforted.
When I woke up this morning, and remembered the things going on, I could feel the heaviness creeping back in.
So I got up, earlier than I normally do. And I opened my Bible again. And then I went to my son’s eighth grade graduation ceremony. We are fortunate enough to have him attend a Christian school and they were playing some worship music. Again, I was comforted.
It was just a reminder to me that you have to be intentional about spending time with God.
But isn’t that how any great relationship is?
Being intentional.
I’m not always great at it. Not near as great as I would like to be.
Life gets busy. There’s always something to do.
But that’s where we have to be careful.
That is what Satan wants.
If he can just keep us busy enough, distracted, then we drift.
I heard a great visual the other day about drifting.
If you’ve ever been to the ocean, or even a lake, and been out in the water on anything that floats, you know how easy it is to drift.
The place that you came from, it stays the same. It doesn’t move.
But if you don’t pay attention when you’re out in the water, before you know it, you’ve drifted away. Not even realizing it.
Have you checked around you lately?
Have you been drifting?
